Live quizzes with points and a leaderboard

A quiz for a class, a team event or a pub night: timed questions on the big screen, answers from phones, a winner at the end.

How a quiz runs

  • Write questions with two to ten options and mark the correct one. Add images where they help.
  • Players join by link or QR code and enter a name for the leaderboard. There is no app and no account.
  • Each question is shown with a countdown. The correct option stays hidden while the question is open.
  • Points go to correct answers; with equal scores, the faster player is ahead.
  • The leaderboard appears at the end on the big screen, and each player sees their own score on the phone.

Fair by design

With a strict timer, late answers are refused and the question closes by itself — or earlier, once everyone has answered. You choose whether the correct answer is revealed after each question or only when the quiz is over.

Good for

  • Classrooms: a revision round at the end of a topic.
  • Team events and onboarding: a light competition that needs no preparation from the players.
  • Meetups and parties: one screen, any number of phones.

After the game

Download the results as a PDF or PowerPoint. By default the report holds totals only; turn names on if you want the leaderboard in it.

Questions and answers

Do participants need an app or an account?

No. Participants open a link or scan a QR code on their phones. There is no app to install and no account to create. A browser on a phone or a laptop is enough.

How are quiz points counted?

Correct answers score points; when two players have the same score, the one who answered faster is ahead. The leaderboard is shown at the end.

Are there ready-made quizzes?

A few, with answers, on the templates page — for example a general knowledge quiz and a Christmas quiz. Copy one into your account and change it, or write your own questions.

Is Votumio free?

Small sessions are free and need no card. You pay only for a bigger audience, more images per question or a longer history — once for a single event or as a subscription; the pricing page has the details.
